Florida Gators embarrassed by Miami Hurricanes in Week 1

The Florida Gators received a massive beatdown at the hands of the Miami Hurricanes in Week 1.

The Canes didn’t just beat the Gators. They obliterated them. Destroyed them. Killed their spirit. IN THEIR HOUSE. It was glorious. Several Gator fans are furious and clamoring for head coach Billy Napier to be fired, however I am of the opinion Napier should get a lifelong contract. It takes a special talent (or lack thereof) to make Florida look so pathetic.

Miami QB Cam Ward looks like a star. The transfer QB gashed the Gator defense all day and ended with 385 yards and 3 touchdowns. All-in-all, the Canes racked up 529 yards of offense while the Gators mustered just 261.

Before being knocked out with injury, Florida QB Graham Mertz put up an all-time stinker of a performance. Mertz completed just 11-of-20 passes for 91 yards with zero scores and 1 interception.

If you watched this game, it could’ve been even worse than the final score. The Canes looked like the more physical team and looked like the better-coached team. This was one of the few games on the schedule the Gators had a good chance to win, or so we thought. Now, the Gators are staring down the barrel of a 2-10 season and I’m not being dramatic.

The Gators play Samford, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, UCF, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and Florida State. How many of those games will Florida be favored in? Samford and Mississippi State, obviously, but it’s not a stretch to say the Gators will be dogs in every other game.

As mentioned above, Sunbelt Billy deserves a lifetime extension. The Tennessee Vols should have no problem beating the Gators, and based off of Week 1, the Vols should probably win by 20+.
