Michigan sign-stealing scandal possibly involved Tennessee; Hadden out for season

If you’ve kept up with Vol Twitter at all, you know that the Michigan sign-stealing saga has been a huge talking point. Initially, the story had absolutely nothing to do with Tennessee. However, in typical Vol fan fashion, the Vol Twitter army went digging and found a ton of interesting information.

For starters, one message board user posted way before this story broke that they heard about a staffer at another school buying tickets to Vols games for the purpose of sign-stealing.

Then, it came out that reportedly, Michigan was sharing the sign-stealing intel with teams that were playing potential playoff teams. Who was a potential playoff team in 2022? That’s right, the Tennessee Vols.

As you all remember, South Carolina dashed any playoff hopes the Vols had after exploding on offense and hanging 63 on the Vols. The weird thing? Just a week before that game, the Gamecocks only mustered 6 points against Florida.

Does any of this prove that South Carolina cheated to beat Tennessee? No, but it is strange. If we get any definitive proof, you’ll see it here on The 1796.

Elsewhere in Vol Land, star corner Kamal Hadden is out for the season with a shoulder injury suffered against Alabama. We’ve already written about how good Hadden is, so check that out if you haven’t.

It’s easy to be bummed out that Hadden may be done playing football at Tennessee, but also feel bad for Hadden the player. He had been having a dominant season and firmly cemented himself as one of the best corners in the country. We wish Hadden a speedy recovery and good luck in his future.
