Tennessee Baseball: Vols keep rolling against Bowling Green, Kansas State
The #8 Tennessee Volunteers continue their dominant run through non-conference baseball after a weekend sweep and a dismantling of Kansas State last night. The Vols swept the Bowling Green Falcons last weekend, winning each game by ten-plus and run-ruling the Falcons each day.
The big story so far this season is the hitting. The Vols lineup is deadly and dangerous and last night proved it. The Wildcats of Kansas State decided to start one of their better pitchers in the midweek game last night. After taking a 2-0 lead on the Vols in the top of the first, Owen Boerema looked to be bringing his A-game, sitting the Vols down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first. His mojo did not last long as beginning in the second, Dylan Dreiling launched a 2-run blast and the Vols opened the floodgates. The Vols added one more run in the second with a Blake Burke double and this looked to be a high-level Power Five game. Then the third inning happened. Like previous games this year, the Vols take one inning and just decide to mash baseballs. Billy Amick and Christian Moore both hit solo home runs and freshman Dean Curley hit a grand slam. The Vols led 9-2 after the third and did not look back. There was no run rule for this one and the Vols would go on to win 15-5 after nine.
The obvious talking point from last night would be Dean Curley. The freshman hit three home runs and was about five feet away from hitting the home run cycle. Just an incredible showing from Curley, and he is on pace to break the single-season home run record currently held by teammate Blake Burke. Curley has eight hits on the season and six of them are home runs. If this play keeps up, he could have an all-time season and possibly an all-time career.
The Vols look to continue their 11-game win streak with a game tonight against Southern Indiana at 6:00 PM EST on SEC Network +. Weather could come into play tonight and expect a lighter crowd as the Men’s basketball team plays for an SEC championship tonight at 7:00 PM EST.
