College Baseball: These Vols have World Series potential
After months of scratching the surface the Tennessee Baseball team has finally broken through becoming the #1 ranked team in the nation ahead of a big road matchup at Vanderbilt this week. Tennessee has had quite the season up until this point getting their 40th win this season after a Tuesday night win over Queens. This marks the 5th straight year the Vols have won 40 games in a season.
Tennessee became the #1 team in the nation across multiple websites Monday after a series win this past weekend over conference rival Florida on the road. Fans of the team knew this team was special from the get-go, starting the season out at 18-1 and winning a whopping 17 in a row heading into conference play. After dropping their first conference series to Alabama, the team has not looked back, not losing a single series since. There is no question where this production comes from, which is the offense. They have been an absolute juggernaut this season, at times completely overwhelming opposing pitchers. The Volunteers have hit 126 home runs this season. That is the second-most among D1 teams this season just behind Austin Peay. The team also has been slugging .637 while hitting .324. These efforts have been a fun watch for fans across the country. This is the first time since the historic 2022 season that Tennessee has been the #1 ranked team in the nation. Even though this is an astounding accomplishment, teams who rank first overall have not done the best come Omaha. Despite that, the Volunteers have overcome doubters all season. With a series against in-state rival Vanderbilt, fans across the country will be tuning in all weekend as this series could have major implications for the College World Series. The Vols were victorious in the first game against the Commodores on Friday night.
A red-hot team with a lineup like the Volunteers can take you far in the World Series. If Tennessee can keep its momentum up throughout the postseason, they could find themselves National Champions for the first time in program history
