The defining moment of Tennessee Basketball’s regular season
The 7 Seniors for Tennessee Basketball finished their career in TBA with a 10-point victory over South Carolina Saturday afternoon. The Vols were tied with the Gamecocks at halftime after yet another sleepy start, which has become a common theme for this team. While the slow starts are concerning, this team’s ability to bounce back is elite.
After a brutal loss to Kentucky at home on January 28th, this Tennessee team was 4-4 in SEC play with a top-5 Florida team coming to Knoxville in 3 days. It was going to be a tough game, but then it got even tougher with Zakai Zeigler being out with an injury and Igor Milicic Jr. being out with the flu. Tennessee had 7 scholarship players available to try and knock off a Florida team that had embarrassed them with a 30-point blowout in Gainesville 24 days prior. Tennessee naturally ended up blowing out the Gators by 20 points that day and held the Gators to a season low in scoring.
Tennessee has gone 7-2 to finish the regular season since that incredible effort to beat the Gators. Tennessee has now won 25 games for the 4th year in a row and is looking to set sail on what every Tennessee fan hopes will be the first-ever final-4 run in school history. I will not blame anyone for complaining about this team starting slow in games far too often this year, but if you don’t recognize their ability to turn it around and come out on top as well, you are just a glass-half-empty person. Not only in individual games but also throughout SEC play.
Tennessee will be back in action this Friday in the SEC tournament in Nashville, where they will play either Texas A&M, Texas, or Vanderbilt.
