Code’s Corner: Baseball, Softball, and Basketball, Oh My!

Well, other than a midweek heartbreaker to Lipscomb the Base Vols have been rolling all in all. Last night the baseball team dropped a midweek game 9-6 in a game where pitching just couldn’t seem to find their groove. Overall does the loss sting? Yes. Does it affect anything in the big picture? No. Buckle down and prepare for the weekend series against Florida. The teams’ overall record is 37-8 and 15-6 in conference play. Things will work themselves out here. Lady Vols Softball continues to hold steady at #3 in the nation behind dominant pitching and winning the series in Tuscaloosa but dropping the Sunday game 1-0 with Kentucky on the schedule for the next series starting Thursday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. Lady Vols Softball is primed and ready to make another run at Oklahoma City for the WCWS in my opinion.

In basketball news on the men’s side, Coach Barnes and company have landed some MAJOR pickups in the portal. Felix Okpara, Darlinstone Dubar, and Igor Milicic Jr. have committed thus far, with more to come possibly. Jonas Aidoo ended up committing to Arkansas under the new coaching staff which includes Coach Cal but with what we have coming in I believe we will be in a prime position to continue to compete heavily in the SEC.

Lady Vols Basketball coach Kim Caldwell has come in HOT with the recruiting aspect and adding from the portal. Adding Alyssa Latham from Syracuse and Lazaria Spearman from Miami. We knew coming in that she could make things happen and I believe retaining the players she has, and the additions overall, will make this team look night and day different from what we have become accustomed to.

Recapping the Vols that were drafted to the NFL. Jaylen Wright was the first Vol taken off the board and he is heading to the Miami Dolphins. Joe Milton III was picked up by the New England Patriots and former VFL Jerod Mayo as the new HC in New England. Kamal Hadden was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. And others signed as UDFA including McCallan Castles to the Eagles. Ramel Keyton to the Raiders. Jacob Warren to the Patriots. Dee Williams and Aaron Beasley to the Seahawks. Jaylen McCollough to the Rams. Jeremiah Crawford to the Panthers. Gabe Jeudy-Lally and Jabari Small to the Titans.

Anyways, what are some things that you are looking forward to with Tennessee Athletics? Any players you are looking forward to seeing take the field/court? Drop a few questions for us for the upcoming podcast below! #GBO
