Dalton Knecht, Zakai Zeigler, Jonas Aidoo win honors
It is always a good weekend when I get to travel to Knoxville from Central Arkansas! I will preface this by saying this was also my FIRST time in TBA for any event. Growing up I would travel to Fayetteville to watch our Volunteers take on the Razorbacks. Or I would watch the Lady Vols play the Women’s SEC Tournament when it was hosted in North Little Rock, AR. The game atmosphere was phenomenal! The back and forth with the Kentucky fans made it even more fun, to be honest. However, the ending was not how we would have liked it, especially with Dalton dropping 40 points on 14-29 shooting accompanied by 4 rebounds and 1 assist. ZZ had a decent game as well dropping 14 points and 9 assists but unfortunately, there was no one else that could get a steady game going. The final in the game ended up being 85-81 with a very exciting final 4 minutes. But all in all the Vols could not slow down the “Freshman of the Year” Reed Sheppard and his 7-10 shooting from three-point range. However, even with the loss the boys still locked up the double bye for the SEC Tournament that starts on Wednesday in Nashville, TN. Today, Dalton Knecht was named SEC Player of the Year and Zakai Zeigler was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Both players were also selected to the All-SEC First Team. ZZ was also selected to the All-Defensive Team and Jonas Aidoo was selected for the All-SEC Second Team and All-Defensive Team. The SEC Tournament is not an easy battle to win but I believe if we find a consistent swing we can pull it off and be crowned regular season champions and SEC Tournament Champions. Joe Lunardi also has us with a CHANCE to land the final #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament pending how we do in our tournament and how North Carolina does in their tournament! BUCKLE UP VOLS!!! IT IS OFFICIALLY MARCH MADNESS!
