Projecting the Titans 53 Man Roster

With only one game left of the preseason and training camp drawing to a close within a few days the Titans are left with the difficult decision of cutting down to 53 men to the active roster. Here’s how I project the Titans to look after cut day on August 27th.

DE: Sebastian Joseph-Day, Keondre Coburn,

DT: Jeffrey Simmons, TK Mclendon, Isaiah Iton

NT: T’Vondre Sweat, Quinton Bohanna

OLB: Harold Landry, Arden Key, Jaylen Harrell, Rashad Weaver

ILB: Kenneth Murray Jr., Jack Gibbens, Chance Campbell, Cedric Gray, James Williams

CB: L’Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie, Roger McCreary, Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Gabe Jeud-Lally, Tre Avery

S: Amani Hooker, Quandre Diggs, Jamal Adams, Elijah Molden

P: Ryan Stonehouse

K: Nick Folk

LS: Morgan Cox

A few things to note. I don’t feel that it is in the Titans best interest to keep Nick Folk if Brayden Narveson continues to play well. Let me take you back to the Carolina Panthers season of 2017. The Panthers already had kicker Graham Gano on the roster and he was a solid kicker — not great — but solid. Enter Harrison Butker. Butker was selected with the Panthers 7th round pick in 2017. Butker and Gano are in competition for the kicking spot. Butker hit his first FG — a 46 yard attempt — against the Tennessee Titans in the 3rd preseason game. He goes on to hit a 51 yard FG in the following preseason game. Subsequently the Panthers decided it was best to go with the “solid” and “sure thing” so they cut Butker and kept Gano. The Panthers signed him to the practice and soon thereafter was picked up by the Chiefs. The rest is history. Although I’m not crowning Narveson the next Harrison Butker I’m confident enough to say that from now to the next few years he will be a better kicker than Nick Folk who will be 40 this season. The Titans have desperately needed a kicker who can hit from 50+ and Folk isn’t that guy anymore. Narveson offers a renewed hope that once the Titans get to their opponents 40 yard line that they are now in range to hit a FG. It will be interesting to see if the Titans go that direction. However, I just don’t see this franchise doing that.

Some of my favorite backend roster guys to make the team are as follows: Jaylen Harrell, Jha’Quan Jackson, and Gabe Jeudy-Lally. Harrell has shown that he has the capability to rush the passer and do so well. He’s been a force when he’s been on the field the past two games. The same can be said about Jha’Quan Jackson. When the ball is in his hands you don’t know what might happen next and he makes you hold your breath — in a good way. Gabe jeudy-Lally on the other hand is still fairly raw. That still shouldn’t stop him from making the team. To be fair he doesn’t have much competition. Caleb Farley is perpetually on IR and Tre Avery can give up TDs to anyone and still make the roster because currently there may be no one better — which is fine when your top 4 CB’s are: Sneed, Awuzie, McCreary, and Brownlee Jr.

The Titans are set to have one of the most electric offenses we have seen in a long time coupled with the best secondary this team has had since Jason McCourty, Alterraun Verner, Cortland Finnegan, and Michael Griffin.
