Breaking Down the Tennessee Titans 2024 Roster

Yesterday the Tennessee Titans cut down to 53 players for their active roster. Although things are safe for most of the roster there are still some items to be sorted out in the coming days. I initially gave my 53 man projection here where I got a some things right and a few things wrong. One of the big misses so far — which is certainly surprising — is the Titans only carrying 4 CB’s on the roster: Sneed, Awuzie, McCreary, and Brownlee Jr. Let me be the first to say there’s no way they go into week 1 with only 4 CB’s that’s a huge risk. The only way I can possibly see them doing so is the fact that they kept 5 safeties total, which include Julius Wood who can probably play Nickel in a pinch. However, the Titans shouldn’t rest on their laurels as players have began to be cut. Here is the full 53 man roster put out from the Titans minus the recent additions of Julius Wood (S) and Ali Gaye (DE/OLB).

On the flip side what I did get right is the entire slate of TE’s: Chig, Whyle, Odukoya, and DMR. The Titans just recently let go of Vannett to make room for two players they recently added off of waivers If the Titans are in need of cutting a player to make room for another it will probably come from either the Safety, TE, or ILB corps.

The Titans traded former safety/cornerback Elijah Molden to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a late round pick — probably a 6th or 7th round pick. The move comes as the Titans have been working diligently to ship off players they deem dispensable and have some value to the league — i.e. Malik Willis and now Molden.

Speaking of Inside Linebackers reports from the national media has the Titans trading for former LAC ILB Ernest Jones. Tennessee gave up a pick swap in 2026 of their 5th and received a 2026 6th and Ernest Jones in return. The Titans have desperately needed another ILB after Cedric Gray has been injured and collectively as a group outside of Chance Campbell — who recently tore his ACL — the Titans have struggled to fill that gap. Now, the Titans have a legit Linebacker in Jones that was rated as PFF’s 13th best ILB in 2023. Jones recorded 74 solo tackles and 4.5 sacks last year for the Rams. Kenneth Murray Jr. and Ernest Jones should be a formidable duo as they look to fit neatly into Dennard Wilson’s scheme of fast and hard nose players. The Titans have had massive upgrade upon massive upgrade on the defensive side of the ball this offseason. It’s nothing short of a miracle that which Ran Carthon concocted to do this offseason to get the Titans into a contender-esque window while Levis is still on his rookie deal. The deal is still not official and is likely pending a physical thus the team has yet to announce the move in public. However, it should be a done deal. With the addition of Jones a player previously notified that they made the team will have to be cut in order to make room for Jones. It’s likely that one of the linebackers — perhaps Cedric Gray — who’s been injured throughout training camp is put on PUP until the Titans figure out what to do at ILB. Either that or Otis Reese IV or Luke Gifford should be a clean cut. Keep in mind at the end of the day only 48 players can be active on game day as well. So it should conceivably make sense to cut the fat in the ILB room to allow Jones onto the roster. Take a look at some of the tape cutups below to see what kind of stud the Titans are getting in Ernest Jones IV:

Ultimately, the Titans have consistently done what is best for the team and it’s no different than when analyzing how Ran Carthon constructed this roster. The Titans — at least on paper — look to be a completely new team heading into the 2024 season in which they should be field a very competitive team each and every week.
