Tennessee Titans Official 2024 Schedule Release Breakdown

The official Tennessee Titans schedule has been released. Although the opponents have been finalized for months there has been much that has been up until today undecided. Such as: How many primetime games the Titans will have, when their bye week is located, and of course the inevitable road and home stands that are crucial to overcome. The Titans will of course play the AFC South as well as the AFC East, and NFC North. The Titans play the 10th easiest schedule. However, it doesn’t appear like that on paper. The Titans have very few “gimmie” games on the schedule. The Titans “easiest” games could come against: New England, Washington, and maybe Minnesota. Although, as most Titans fans know the Titans always seem to have the capability to beat the best and lose to the worst teams. That’s what makes the NFL season so fun and special, parity.

Below we’ll breakdown how the schedule shakes out with all the details.

Week 1- @ Chicago 12pm

The Titans open up the season against the Chicago Bears in Chicago. This should be a big matchup with a lot of eyes watching to see Caleb Williams’ debut against an NFL team. In addition this will be a great battle to see how Dennard Wilson’s defense can outmaneuver a young rookie QB. On the other side of the ball Will Levis will be going up against a tough Chicago defense that boasts 2 former Titans: Kevin Byard and Demarcus Walker. The Bears defense also boats Jaylon Johnson who was PFF’s number one ranked CB last year.

Week 2- NYJ 12pm

The Titans first home game will welcome Aaron Rodgers to Tennessee for the first time since 2016 in a loss. This will be a tough matchup for Tennessee. The Jets have gotten better on both sides of the field by adding Tyron Smith, Ola Fashanu, Mike Williams, and Javon Kinlaw. The Jets already had a tough defense with Sauce Gardner, Jermaine Johnson, and Hassan Reddick. We’ll see how Tennessee is able to handle a well developed team early on in the season.

Week 3- Green Bay 12pm

Jordan Love and the Packers will come to Nashville as the first 2023 playoff team the Titans will face. The Packers are a formidable team and it should be a fun matchup to see how Will Levis compares to another QB, Jordan Love, who has certainly looked the part midway through last year and up until their eventual loss in the NFC Divisonal game.

Week 4- @ MIA (MNF)

Well well well…looks like we have our first through-and-through rematch of the year. The Titans will once again face the Dolphins in Miami on Monday Night. This should be a fun game to see how Tennessee once again matches up with the Dolphins and prove that last year’s game wasn’t a fluke.

Week 5- Bye

This is a terrible time to have a bye week this early in the season. I believe it’s the first set bye week the NFL gives teams. This will make it extremely difficult as the Titans may try to make a playoff push and if so – hopefully – they don’t run out of gas by week 18

Week 6- Colts 12pm

The Titans first divisional game will come immediately after the bye week giving the Titans an advantage against their longtime foe. If Anthony Richardson makes it this far into this season it should be a fun matchup to see Will Levis and Richardson duel it out in what could be a preview of a matchup for years to come.

Week 7- @ Buffalo 12pm

The Titans will face a gritty Buffalo Bills team who’s lead by Josh Allen who many compared Levis to pre-draft. The Titans should consider themselves lucky to face Buffalo in October rather than late in the season in December. This matchup should prove evenly on paper and will give Tennessee their 3rd playoff team in their first 6 games of the season.

Week 8- @ Detroit 12pm

This should be a really fun game to see how the Titans fare in a dome for the first time this season. Weather won’t be a factor and the Titans will face a really gritty team in the Lions that take on the attitude of Coach Cambell. The Lions are a fun team to watch and the Titans will need to slow down their high flying offense if they want to have any chance at winning in Detroit.

Week 9- New England 12pm

The Titans will face their 2nd rookie QB of the year in Drake Maye. By this time in the year Maye should have a decent bearing on the NFL game. The Titans certainly have the upper hand on paper and Dennard Wilson should make Maye’s life difficult as Wilson looks to lean on his defense to bring home a victory.

Week 10- @ Los Angeles Chargers 3:05pm

Another out of division rematch for the Titans this time in beautiful Los Angeles in early November. The Titans so far shouldn’t be having any issues worrying about weather in cool Los Angeles in November. This match could result in an early head-to-head tie-breaker for the wild card spot if the Titans are in close contention by late December and early January.

Week 11- Minnesota 12pm

The Titans will once again face another rookie QB from the NFC North in JJ McCarthy. This matchup should be much more favorable than the previous one against 2024 #1 overall pick Caleb Williams. By this time on the backend of the season JJ McCarthy should be more acclimated to the NFL which makes this a bit more difficult than if the Titans were facing the Vikings early in the season.

Week 12- @ Houston 12pm

The Titans will face their 2nd divisional game during week 12. This is certainly late in the year to be facing your 2nd divisional foe. The NFL seems to have stacked the backend of the Titans roster with AFC South divisional games to make it more compelling for playoff contention.

Week 13- @ Washington 12pm

Make this the third rookie QB the Titans will face. This time the weather could certainly be a factor as early December in Washington D.C. the weather can be less than ideal. This ought to be a fun game to watch as Jayden Daniels looks to best Dennard Wilson at home. Levis will get the benefit of facing a fairly weak secondary in Washington.

Week 14- Jacksonville 12pm

The Titans finally face the Jaguars late in the season — this time at home. Calvin Ridley will get his first revenge game of the season in December but luckily at home. By this time the playoff picture should be shaping up and this game may have implications on the AFCS crown and/or a potential wild card spot for both the Titans and Jacksonville.

Week 15- Cincinnati 12pm

Brian Callahan will face his old team as will Chidobe Awuzie and Tyler Boyd in Nashville.. This game seems like it should have been at least a Thursday night game with the storylines. Former coach and several Bengals players battling it out, and at the same time possibly vying for a playoff spot. By this time in the season we’ll know if Joe Burrow is back to normal after his wrist injury — I expect he will— and the Bengals will be looking to make a deep playoff run.

Week 16- @ Indianapolis 12pm

The final game against Indy will come in mid-December. At this time we’ll know weather or not both teams are in the playoff race or out. I expect both teams to still be clinging for a possible playoff spot and no doubt there’s a lot of bad blood between these two franchises as they face for what should be the final time this season.

Week 17- @ Jacksonville 12pm

The Titans will enter Jacksonville late in December looking to either play spoiler again or fighting for a playoff spot. Thankfully Decembers in Jacksonville aren’t bad weather wise and should be a fairly brisk day but nonetheless nothing to worry about if you’re Tennessee weather wise. The biggest issue will be the Jacksonville crowd who as recently showed out late in the season. However, maybe similar to last year Tennessee can put the nail in the coffin for the Jaguars in their own stadium.

Week 18- Houston TBD

This is the Titans final game and I expect if both teams are fighting for the divisional crown this may get a Saturday or Sunday prime time spot. Hopefully the Titans won’t be left with only one prime time game throughout the entire season.

After analyzing all 17 games the Titans seem to have gotten the short end of the stick in a few areas: First, they currently only have one prime time game. That continues to fuel the flames that the NFL doesn’t care about the Titans or hold them in high regard. Which, of course the Titans weren’t a playoff team. However, teams like the Giants, LAC, and NO get 3 prime time games. The next issue is the Titans have the earliest bye week of the season at week 5. Generally speaking you want your bye week to be somewhere between weeks 7-12. In 2022 the Titans bye week was week 6, and in 2023 it was in week 7.

One thing that the Titans do have going for them is they never have to play more than 2 away games at a time. Last year the Titans had a slate of 3 road games in a row to Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Jacksonville— The Titans lost all three games. The schedule is much more even this year.

Overall this Titans schedule isn’t going to make any Titans fans feel the warm and fuzzies. If there’s one thing to at least look forward to is that you won’t have to wait long to watch this time play week-to-week as they play most games in the 12pm slot. We’ll be able to see quickly how this Titans can withstand tough competition within the first quarter of the season as they take on a slew of teams that have playoff aspirations.
