Breaking- Jamal Adams is a Titan

With only a couple weeks till the Titans open training camp the organization made a big splash to fill one of their most pressing issues. Jamal Adams met with the Titans today and has agreed to a deal —reuniting the former Dennard Wilson pupil once again. Wilson was Adams’s positional coach with the Jets. Adams was originally drafted in 2017 with the Jets where he made a name for himself being a human missile similar to Bob Sanders of old. As he played his early years with the Jets he was a two time All-Pro and Pro Bowler. He was then traded to the Seahawks in 2020 where he earned his last Pro Bowl bid. Over the course of his last few years in Seattle not everything has been well for Adams as he’s missed 33 of the past 67 games since being traded, and only played in 10 games the past two seasons.

Adams will need to stay healthy to alleviate the concerns that were brought forth with the Elijah Molden. A big reason the Titans have looked toward upgrading the safety position is due to Elijah Molden’s inability to play well at the position — granted he’s been serviceable but not nearly what the Titans needed and/or are currently looking for with the addition of Dennard Wilson. Adams should have plenty of opportunities to rush the passer and play low in the box to help this Titans defense affect pressure on opposing offenses. Even though Adams has had his share of injuries recently if he can stay healthy this could be a move that helps the Titans substantially.

Analyzing Adams’s play last year he had 0 sacks, 2 hurries, 0 interceptions, and 2 passes defended in 9 games according to PFF. Those aren’t inspiring numbers. However, Ran Carthon, Brian Callahan, and Dennard Wilson are most likely banking on the fact that Adams —who will turn 29 this October — can return to his former self and the last two years are only an aberration.

This past season Jamal Adams found himself in a bit of controversy. Adams attacked the appearance of a reporter’s wife on X after said reporter criticized his play that led the Cowboys to beat the Seahawks. Adams will need to be smarter than that and hopefully he has learned from that experience as he was excoriated throughout from the media and NFL fans.

The addition of Adams should be the final piece of the puzzle for the Titans defense as it has done a complete 180 from the previous season. The additions: L’Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie, Jamal Adams, Jarvis Brownlee Jr. have completely reshaped the secondary from years past. Jamal Adams is another weapon for Dennard Wilson’s tool box to put forth a much better competitive defense going into 2024.
