Game Preview- Titans vs. Bills
Here we again. The Titans are on the precipice of one of their worst starts after falling 1-4 last week to the Colts. Since that time the Titans have began a massive implosion of sorts before ever stepping on the field to face the Buffalo Bills in upstate New York.
To begin, Jamal Adams officially requested and was granted his release from the Tennessee Titans. When the Titans added Jamal Adams many, including myself, thought it was a great opportunity for all involved. Especially since he was reuniting with Dennard Wilson and later Quandre Diggs. However, this season has been a nightmare of sorts for Adams and I’m not sure what the Titans could have done differently given his injury issues this year. Now the wheels are starting to fall off of the officially. But wait, there’s more…
As the Titans are falling apart at the seams the Buffalo Bills are now at their healthiest as compared to the past few games. James Cook is set to come back as well as Khalil Shakir, they’re also set to have Ed Oliver, their Pro Bowl DL, back for the game as well. Those aren’t the only upgrades the Bills have added either. Early this week the moribund Cleveland Browns decided to give up on the season and send Amari Cooper to the Bills. The addition of Cooper doesn’t bode well for a Titans defense that wasn’t already struggling despite being the “#1 in Fewest YPG.” The Titans defense has consistently been one of the worse in the NFL despite so many additions like L’Jarius Sneed, Ernest Jones IV, Quandre Diggs, Chidobe Awuzie, etc. The Titans are struggling to stop teams on 3rd down and especially 3rd and long, struggling to sack the QB and/or apply pressure. That problem should be exacerbated ten fold against the Buffalo Bills tomorrow afternoon.
Defense is one issue but the bigger issue is the offense, in particular Will Levis. The offense has struggled substantially when he’s been at the helm. The pressure seems to be mounting on both Brian Callahan and Will Levis to turn this team around. Unfortunately, the Titans are stuck with who they have for the year. There’s no savior that is walking through the doors of Saint Thomas Sports Park to save the Titans season. Honestly, you don’t ever want to root for your team to lose, but…the season is over and the Titans need as high as a draft pick as possible to potentially get a new QB or a game changing offensive weapon. It’s week seven in the NFL and Titans fans have already submitted in their mock drafts with names like Ewers, Sanders, and Tetairoia McMillan. In response to the situation the Titans currently find themselves questions are starting to arise about what the Titans can get for aging players who can still contribute on other teams — in particular — future HOF DeAndre Hopkins. Similar questions were asked last year to Derrick Henry — in which there was an offer from the Ravens for Henry for a mid-round pick. Obviously Carthon never went through with the deal but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t learned from last year to do what’s best for Hopkins. If a deal is sent that makes sense for both sides it makes sense at this point to recoup draft capital for 2025. If the Titans can’t move the ball with Hopkins what makes them think they can’t achieve the same results without him. Hopkins was steadfast in his answer that he wants to be in Tennessee. That’s probably more so PR talk than reality. If he were to be traded to a team like the Chiefs or Ravens he’d have a legit shot at a Superbowl before ending his career.
Will Levis and L’Jarius Sneed are officially listed as Questionable for Sunday’s game at Highmark Stadium. No matter what you think of Levis he should be the QB out there on Sunday. If nothing else than to prove to Ran Carthon and AAS that he’s not the QB going forward for the Titans — which should be an easy case to make. As for Sneed — if he’s out Amari Cooper and/or whoever else the Bills decide to put out their against Darrell Baker Jr. or Tre Avery are going to be in for a long day. Josh Allen is an elite QB who knows how to find the weakness of defenses and exploit it with both his arm and legs. This is an extremely difficult matchup for the Titans even before their collapse. However, with the present situation the Titans find themselves in odds seem improbable — nigh impossible to defeat the Bills this Sunday at High Mark
The Buffalo Bills WILL defeat the Tennessee Titans this Sunday and I’ll be there in person — unfortunately — to witness it. The defense will consistently allow the Bills to go up and down the field and Will Levis/Mason Rudolph will most certainly not do enough to warrant a competitive game. Once again the Titans will ask themselves the same questions week in and week out of what they need to do to fix themselves. However, the answer isn’t one they’ll find in 2024. They’ll have to wait, once again, for another season to install hope into this lifeless fanbase. Bills win 42-17.
Small bit of good news: No longer do we have to watch Treylon Burks hit the field as he recently found himself on IR after practice on Friday — surprise surprise. Net Negative continues to do net negative things. Hopefully that’s the last we see of Burks, ever.
