Post Game Reaction — The Titans Win in a Loss to the Jaguars

The Titans passed the test. If anyone had any qualms about who’s the worst team in the league those should be shattered about now. The Titans lost in usual fashion — hardly scoring and allowing plenty of points to the opposition. The climate during the game was as dreary as the Titans 2024 season. The Titans had minimal success overall with plenty of opportunities, however, they only managed to double dip at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half scoring all whopping 10 points in about a 7 minute span.

Mason Rudolph and company played ok, but as most of the season went the Titans got most of their production when it was much too little too late. The Titans defense did a great job most of the day. However, big gainers to Brian Thomas Jr., the rookie out of LSU, was too much to handle as he had a great day against the Titans banged up secondary raking up 7 receptions for 91 yards and a TD. The game was boring for sure, but went about as well as one could hope for fans that are excited about the tank.

The Titans are currently picking at the #2 spot. The only team in front of them is the New England Patriots who have a Week 18 game against the Bills who have already locked up the #2 seed. I expect the Bills to rest plenty of starters and Drake Maye to play his best game against the Bills 2nd and 3rd team defense. If the Patriots win next week and the Titans lose to the Texans the Titans will secure the #1 overall pick for the 2nd time in franchise history (2016) and the NFL Draft would run through Tennessee. There will be plenty of debate about what the Titans should do with the pick. Whether that’s to select Shadeur Sanders, Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter, or trade out and still select one of the four players.

No matter which way you fall in regards to your draft pick flavor the Titans need a heck of a lot of help to become a respectable team again. There are a multitude of holes throughout the team but no other hole is bigger than QB. Early in the broadcast one of the color commentators stated that Brian Callahan wouldn’t mind Mason Rudolph as a “bridge QB” for next year and look to ‘26 to pick their QB. I can’t even begin to tell you how bad of a decision that would be. Essentially you’re punting on 2025 in hopes that a QB who may be better will come out. There’s no guarantee that Arch Manning will come out for the ‘26 draft after only one year as a starter at Texas. There’s too much at stake to assume you’ll also be in a position to draft as high as you will in 2025 or not. The Titans were supposed to be one of the better teams in the AFC South this year after an offseason that saw the Titans get much better on paper. Another question that comes to bear is does Brian Callahan deserve to usher in a new QB? To many fans the answer is probably no. There’s been nothing concrete that shows the Titans have improved over last season. As Herm Edwards once said, “You are what your record says you are,” and this Titans team is the worst in the league.

What’s Next:

The Titans will take on the Houston Texans who came off a terrible loss on Christmas to the Ravens. The Texans CANNNOT go into the playoff losing their last two games, especially in the way they lost that game on Christmas day. The Titans will officially solidify a top 2 pick regardless of what happens around the NFL if they lose next week. We’ll have to see if shortly thereafter the Texans game if HC Brian Callahan manages to stay on as head coach on Black Monday. The next 8 days will certainly be an interesting one!
