Will Levis named Titans’ starting QB: Instant reaction

On Tuesday, Mike Vrabel did what every Titans fan has wanted him to do for 2 weeks now. That’s right, the coach finally named rookie Will Levis the team’s starting QB.

The coach announced the move at a press conference Tuesday morning. Vrabel also confirmed that Ryan Tannehill will be Levis’ backup. Making Tannehill the backup makes sense, considering the trade deadline has passed and Malik Willis shouldn’t even be a backup on the Ottawa Redblacks.

This was the right move. The Titans are going nowhere this season, so what’s the point in playing an aging vet on an expiring deal? Not o mention, Levis has looked fantastic in a limited sample this season. In his NFL debut, Levis completed 65.5% of his passes for 238 yards and 4 TDs. Levis followed that performance up with a 262 yard performance against the Steelers on Thursday Night Football.

If Levis ends up being bad, he still needs to play. The Titans are setting up to have a top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the team needs to know if a QB should be targeted or not. Overall, I think Levis has looked great thus far and I’m looking forward to watching him for the rest of the season. I would advise tempered expectations, however, because teams will have more tape on him as the season progresses.

This is the right decision. We know Tannehill is done in the Music City. It’s time for Levis to shine.
