VFL Grant Williams traded ahead of 2024 NBA Trade Deadline

One of the best Tennessee basketball players in recent memory was traded on Thursday ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline. Grant Williams was traded by the Dallas Mavericks to the Charlotte Hornets. Notably, Williams grew up in Charlotte, so the move represents a homecoming for the forward.

Also notable is who Williams was traded for. Williams was packaged with Seth Curry and a 2027 1st round pick in exchange for PJ Washington. Washington is a former Kentucky Wildcat who squared off with Williams several times in college.

Williams was originally drafted in the 1st round of the 2019 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. Williams became a crucial bench piece for the Celtics over several seasons and averaged 6.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in Boston. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Celtics negotiated a sign-and-trade with the Mavericks for Williams. Williams wasn’t a great fit in Dallas, and the forward will now look to bounce back with his hometown Hornets.
