Tennessee vs. Oklahoma: “The hoisting of the flag”

Tennessee Football is in a position to cement its status as a national championship contender on Saturday night in Norman. To this point in the season, Tennessee is a far superior team to Oklahoma, and honestly, I don’t know if the Sooners have an advantage going into this matchup other than being the home team.

Tennessee has the better offense and defense so far, and Oklahoma’s main weakness (O-line) will face Tennessee’s main strength (D-line). Both teams will be starting freshman quarterbacks, but Nico has looked much more in control than Jackson Arnold. Also, you have the revenge factor that might be on Josh Heupel’s mind. For those who don’t know, Heupel led the Sooners to a national title in 2000 finishing second in the Heisman voting as their QB. Fast forward to a few years later and Heupel became the QB coach for his Alma mater in 2006. Eventually, Heupel ascended to being co-oc and the play-caller before being unceremoniously fired by Bob Stoops following the 2014 season. All that to say Heupel will be looking to get one over on his former employer even if he wouldn’t admit that publicly.

Literally everything points to Tennessee winning this game by a comfortable margin and Vegas agrees as Tennessee is currently a 7-point favorite on most betting sites. I think the only thing giving a Vol fan any worry about this game is the past, but honestly, that stuff doesn’t matter. The ghosts of former players don’t participate in the game and no amount of voodoo sorcery should prevent Tennessee from winning this game. If Tennessee loses the game it means they didn’t play well. Simple as that. Consider this my call to all of Big Orange Country to get rid of their last remaining inklings of B.V.S.(Battered Vol Syndrome) because, in my opinion, this will be the hoisting of the flag as Tennessee sets sail on their quest for a national championship.
