2024 NFL Draft: Who do the Titans take with the No. 7 pick?
Recently here at 1796 Sports, we asked you, the readers, on what position the Titans should take with their number 7 pick. And, overwhelmingly you guys picked offensive tackle over the others.
The most likely choice is Joe Alt or Olu Fashanu if either falls to pick number 7. But, what if they are taken before the Titans pick? Let's break it down.
Almost every big sports site has the Titans taking Joe Alt, with a few deviating to a wide receiver in Malik Nabers. But let’s say neither the top two tackles or receivers are available. And if that's the scenario, Brock Bowers would be a very attractive pick.
Just look at the success that teams have with great tight ends. Kelce, Gronk, Kittle, and so on have proven to be vital for winning games and making deep postseason runs. Kelce just recently broke Jerry Rice’s long-standing postseason receptions record. He also tied the Goat’s record for most 100-yard receiving in postseason games grabbing 8. And, Kelce is a tight end. A TIGHT END. And with the Bowers scenario, the Titans could get a big physical receiver with the 38th pick in Xavier Legette. This would give Levis plenty of targets to throw to, something he lacked miserably last year.
Brock finished his career at Georgia with 2,538 yards receiving, and 31 total touchdowns. He also possesses a championship pedigree with back-to-back championships. He would bring versatility at the tight end position that the Titans have lacked by being able to block and break out for a pass. And, you may have heard recently when Brock Bowers was asked where he wanted to play he named the Titans. Players in the draft never answer that question, so there is something there.
If Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze are still available and the top two tackles are off the board, he would be another solid pick and fill a need for the Titans. If not more so of a need than Bowers.
Rome Odunze was an absolute monster this past season. At 6’3, 215 pounds Odunze is physical at the receiver position and racked up 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. In his college career, he finished with 3,272 yards and 26 total touchdowns. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Nabers are considered the two favorites to go at the receiver position, but Odunze might be the best and most physical receiver.
Nabers had a breakout season last year with 1,569 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns. He finished his career with 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns. If the Titans go with Nabers or Bowers over a tackle, they can still get their guy at number 38. While Alt and Fashanu are the most highly regarded tackles, there are plenty of prospects who will available in the 2nd.
The Titans desperately need more talent on the offensive line and are projected to get one of the top two tackles in this class. Ultimately, this is the most likely scenario. However, the team could do what the Cincinnati Bengals did a couple of seasons ago when they chose an elite receiver talent over an offensive lineman.
