2024 NFL Draft: Identifying the Titans biggest need

Hi everyone, my name is Jack and I’m excited to be writing for 1796 Sports! I’ve been a lifelong out-of-state Titans fan for over two decades. This upcoming season is for me and probably a lot of you one of the most highly anticipated we’ve had in a while. So, let’s get into where we go from here.

The Titans have made a bevy of moves opting to spend BIG this offseason on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball with players like: Lloyd Cushenberry (Center), Calvin Ridley (WR1), L’Jarius Sneed (CB1), and Chidobe Awuzie (CB2). However, one glaring need that has been ignored is none other than the most obvious…the LT position. There are have been rumblings earlier on about bringing in players like Mekhi Becton and Andrus Peat with the later invited to an official visit in mid-March. As we currently stand we don’t know if the 9-year veteran Peat has received a contract offer or not from the Titans. I personally believe the Titans were doing their homework on Peat in preparation for a possible post-draft signing. If things go haywire in the first two days of the draft, like they usually do, Peat could be the insurance the Titans need to help solidify their LT position. As we currently sit the biggest need for the Titans this offseason is the LT spot.

As much as I love Nabers and Odunze, assuming Marvin Harrison Jr. is gone, the possibility of sleeping well at night because we drafted Joe Alt or another standout left tackle on the 25th of April gives me hope for Will Levis’ potential as the Titans long awaited Franchise QB. Which leads us to one ace-in-the-hole the Titans have that others teams do not, the legendary offensive line coach Bill Callahan. After landing Dennard Wilson as DC the most consequential coaching addition to this Titans team comes in the form of 25 years of NFL experience from Bill Callahan. The last few years of which he’s been in Cleveland doing a tremendous job there. As starting bookend Jedrick Wills Jr. and Jack Conklin were out of the starting lineup, the Browns and most notably Bill Callahan, were charged with playing musical bookends.  If you were to scour the Browns left tackle and right tackle positions late in the season you would find names such as Geron Christian Sr. (drafted in the 3rd round) and James Hudson III (drafted in the 4th round) holding down the fort. They did an admirable job given the situation protecting Flacco as he led them to a playoff spot. I have huge faith in Bill Callahan as an evaluator of NFL talent along the offensive line. Which brings us to the most important question of them all…how does Bill Callahan view the tackle prospects? The near unanimous consensus among scouts is Alt is OT1 and a combination of Fashanu, Fuaga, Fautanu, and maybe Latham are battling for the OT2 but in the same tier. Whereas tier 2 has guys like Tyler Guyton, Amarius Mims, Jordan Morgan, Kinglsey Sumataia and Patrick Paul. The million dollar question comes back to how Callahan views these prospects. Certainly, the Titans HAVE to take one of these guys with their first two picks. Out of the names listed to date only: Joe Alt, JC Latham, and Tyler Guyton have had a top 30 visit in Nashville. Knowing this organization, their first pick has always made a trip to Nashville. With JC Latham and Guyton’s top 30 visits I’d pencil those guys in as prime trade back prospects. Nevertheless, we’ll know in less than two weeks how Bill Callahan, and largely the Titans organization, views these top left tackle prospects.
